A raised or rising PSA value does not always mean prostate cancer, but should be clarified, also for men without symptoms. Changes in the prostate can be assessed painlessly and precisely with modern MRI diagnostics. Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI), in combination with various MRI sequences, allows differentiation of inflammatory, benign and malignant findings. This enables non-invasive detection and precise localization of possibly cancerous lesions at an early stage. Depending on how relevant the MRI findings are, this offers the opportunity for specific biopsy and individual therapy planning. Active monitoring under MRI control is another option.
Multi-parametric MRI of prostate cancer patients was a focus of my work at the Proton Therapy Center, and I offer it to you in my private practice in accordance with the applicable quality standards using state-of-the-art MRI equipment.

Expert interview with Dr. med. Sven Walter
The importance of prostate MRI in the fight against prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common tumor disease in men in Germany. One in six men over the age of 50 is diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is important to diagnose the cancer as early as possible! The disease is often asymptomatic in the early stages and tumor cells quickly spread (metastasize) as it progresses. MRI of the prostate helps to optimize the diagnostic results and provides valuable information for optimized treatment and therapy planning.
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI for short, is a non-invasive and completely painless examination of the prostate. In a multiparametric examination, the prostate is displayed with high-resolution MRI images in all planes and multiple views and analyzed using various functional measurements. I compare the “multiparametric” examination with a “polyphonic” orchestra. Each individual voice is important, but only together do they make the music.
The usual other examinations of the prostate are not sufficient to detect prostate cancer in the early stages or to rule it out with certainty. Multi-parametric MRI is the most accurate imaging method for detecting prostate cancer that requires treatment and has a good chance of being cured if diagnosed early.
An elevated or rising PSA level in the blood, inflammation or enlargement of the prostate as well as ambiguous findings from a biopsy of the prostate should be clarified in order to differentiate between harmless and malignant changes. MRI of the prostate is the best imaging procedure for detecting or ruling out even the smallest suspicious cancerous lesions. MRI of the prostate has also proven its worth for prostate screening, especially in men with a family history of cancer.
Prevention for long-term health
An early MRI scan can save lives
The MRI examination of the prostate plays a decisive role in the prevention and early detection of prostate cancer. Thanks to the in-depth expertise and many years of experience of Dr. med. Sven Walter, specialist in radiology and nuclear medicine, the importance of this examination becomes even clearer. It provides deep insights into the condition of the prostate and helps to detect signs of prostate cancer at an early stage.
Prostate MRI is an indispensable tool in the fight against prostate cancer. By raising awareness of its importance, together we can improve the health and quality of life of those affected.
